Who Wore It Better is a meme created and hosted by Nitzan at The Book Babes Read and co-hosted here on Beautiful Bookish Butterflies by Amanda and Stacie. We don't talk about clothing or fashion and we definitely don't talk frills and spills, we talk books and their covers and who we think has the best. This week, Amanda's talking about the covers for Through the Ever Night, book #2 of Under the Never Sky, which was recommended by Charnell over at Reviews from a Bookworm. This has become one of Amanda's loved series this year, she's in serious need of the sequel, as soon as is possible.

My Thoughts
This weeks set of covers varies hugely across the board I feel, trying to get the right feel between Sci-Fi and Dystopian, but still trying to keep it fresh and appealing at the same time. Cover #1, the International cover is my first merely because it looks aesthetically pleasing. Mind you, I don't understand the whole design hugely, is that barbed wire he's walking through, and hold up a second, isn't Perry's hair blonde, not brown? But other those points, I think it's really nice to look at and I always fall for the pretty, damn me. Cover #2, the UK edition is second not because I fall for pretty, because trust me, it's not that pretty, but more because I feel like it's more realistic to the world these characters are in and it's the cover I'm used to. Maybe it's a comfort thing, maybe I just like the shades of blue in the sky, but I think it's quite nice and matches well with the other covers. Cover #3, the French edition is possibly secretly my favourite of all the covers. When I saw it I knew I'd love that edition, the models are exactly how I imagined Aria and Perry much more than on the International editions, the colours and shades are perfect and the tattoos are just so perfect, lordy lord, if it wasn't for the fact that it looks like a paranormal new adult cover I would own the hell out of that cover. It's my guilty pleasure.. Covers #4, #5 and #6 are pretty big let downs for me and they do nothing for me, the only reason I put them in that order is that Cover #6 is an absolute no no nopeity nope and Cover #5 is way to similar to it's Under the Never Sky counterpart to be liked more, so Cover #4 beats those two merely on style.
Your Thoughts
What do you think of these covers? Do you like them at all? Do you disagree or do you have a favourite and secret favourite like me? Have you read the series, what do you think of it? If you've read the last book, without spoiling me, how do you feel about it, did it end well? Leave me your thoughts and comments down below and I'll be sure to get back to you.
To be honest, I am not a fan of any of them, I do like the background of Cover 1 with all the beautiful colours but other than that, I'm pretty meh about the rest.
ReplyDeleteThis series doesn't have the joy of beautiful covers unlike some other series out there, might be why it's dismissed quite a bit.. Thank you for your honesty though :)
DeleteI do like your #1 pick the best!! But I really like #5...not sure why. But the pinks are kind of darn cool. I have to confess...I didn't actually like the first book. *hides under the bed* DON'T COME AFTER ME WITH AN AX. I promise I have nothing against it! It just didn't work 100% for me. ;)
ReplyDeleteAww no, not liking it is fine, I was torn until everything came together, it's all thanks to Charnell for me personally :)
DeleteI honestly don't like any of these. :( The first would be beautiful, but the editing and cutting of the models (especially if you own the paperback--you can see it more clearly), looks badly done. #2, #4 and #5 all look really tacky. #3's also secretly the one I think is the most decent. ;) #6 made me laugh so hard! It seriously looks... I DON'T EVEN KNOW. XD
ReplyDeleteIt does look very photoshopped doesn't it? It's quite a shame.. #3 is just, man, I secretly love it, don't know why! :)
DeleteI don't thing I've seen the other series but I think my favorite is the US cover. I like cover 3 but it doesn't go with the story...
ReplyDeleteIt does looks nice I think too, and you're right, cover #3 doesn't match too well..
DeleteI like #1 the best probably, as well as #3. Covers don't usually matter to me, but it's always awesome when they're gorgeous. It just adds something else that's amazing to it. :)
ReplyDeleteWould you mind answering my discussion question on my blog? :)
It's good that you don't mind covers, it makes it easier for when covers change and you have different editions, right? :)
DeleteBuahhaa! The only good thing about being away for 4 days is that I can now binge read all your posts I missed! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to not really loving ANY of the covers. I think it's because they have a habit of putting models on the cover who don't look ANYTHING like the characters. Seriously, hair colour is wrong on more than one of the covers I have. BUGS ME!
1 - Not a big fan of the US ones as I don't like the cover model.
2 - Who is that supposed to be on the cover? She has red hair! Does Aria have red hair? I am sure she doesn't.
3 - Can't figure out if I like it or not.
4,5 & 6 - make me want to cry! Not a fan, haha!
Aww bless you hunny! :)
DeleteAt least cover #3 is a maybe, all of the others just don't match that well at all do they? Maybe it's a comfort thing that people like ones from their own country, could be that reason, but ours are really not good..
I am Dutch, but that Dutch cover makes me want to turn and run the other way! I think the second one is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAlso, just wanted to say that I really like your blog lay-out, it's beautiful! And I see you are reading the Sherlock Case Book - how is it? I've been dying to read it!
Aww bless you! Thank you as well Inge, that's a wonderful thing to say! It's actually really enjoyable, it's so humourous, has so many links to the original stories and the TV show, so it's nice to flick through I think :)
DeleteThe first one is the best one. It seems that this series just can't land a decent cover anywhere. Meh.
ReplyDeleteI know, it's a shame. There should be some wonderful new covers that totally work with the series!
