Bookish Musings - A Fleet of Ships from a Lost Romantic

Bookish Musings is a feature here at Beautiful Bookish Butterflies that allows one of us to share our thoughts and opinions, talk and discuss things happening in the book and blogging community or share a personal book related issue we have. Today, Amanda is talking about her favourite romantic relationships and may or may not spend the next few minutes fangirling over the swoon, the cute, the adorable and the sexy. Oosh.

Our lives, our literature and our media usually revolve in some way or another around one particular feature. Romance. 'Are you seeing anyone yet?' 'Oh, I wouldn't mind a piece of him..' 'I swear down, if my ship doesn't sail I'm going to blow up the harbour!' It's something that, like it or not, we are all subjected to everyday of our lives. You might be married, seeing someone, persistently single or just not interested, but for readers alike, I think it's fair to say we all love good romance to sweep us off our feet, carry us away on horseback and into the distance. Well, maybe not the horsing around and the whole 'distance' thing, but you get my gist. Most novels now, no matter the genre, will have some sort of romance aspect involved, whether that be the stranger to lover, the best friend to boyfriend, or the slowly and unexpected fondness; we all love some swoon, some sweet and some god-damn sex, so I've decided I'm going to spill all my emotions and feelings into one big post, chatting about my favourite paddle boats and cruise liners, because everybody loves talking about their ships and I want to show mine off. (That and I've had the biggest urge ever to just search and use a load of 'ship gifs'.. *giggles menacingly*)

My Current Bookish Ships

Aria and Perry:

These two sold Under the Never Sky for me when I read it a few months ago. When I was struggling with the world building and their backgrounds, their relationship from strangers to friendship to something so much more was just beautiful to watch and oh man, even the simplest of scenes between them would set me smiling like a lunatic. Seeing their perspectives and how their feelings for one another grew, how they came to rely on the support of one another and they're mutual friendship and appreciation for the others skill and patience was enough to have me gripped until the whole plot was fantastic together. Now I just need to see where Rossi sails my ship and hope it's to a good end.

Katsa and Po:

Oh man, these two balls of god-damn adorableness were too much for my shipper heart and I swear I was either crying from the joy they gave me, from the romance or from the ending because damn that ship. Considering the time and age of Graceling, Po understood that Katsa wanted to be her own person and not be owned by him or by a name and she understood that he would stand by her no matter what. They're connection was honest, their relationship built itself on mutual appreciation and a love for their talents and some of their final scenes had my blubbing my heart out. Damn you Cashore and the feels you give me.

Addie and Trevor:

I've only read Pivot Point but wow, these two know how to make a ship sail and sail it well. I was never a huge fan of Trevor in the beginning and I was never sure that he was a good choice for Addie, but around a third in I knew it was meant to be. Call me cheesy and call the cheese brigade but these two swooned me into a puddle of tears, in bed, at 1 in the morning. Trevor was the perfect, intelligent, wise and honestly one of the most sweetest and wonderful book boyfriends I've ever met, and Addie was so relatable, so brave to pick the choice she did and I swear my heart broke into a million pieces. Damn these two cutie pies.

Caymen and Xander:

Yes, that's right, West is that good an author, she makes me ship all the ships. Everybody knows that The Distance Between Us is one of my favourite books of this year and Caymen and Xander were just so damn beautiful together it's amazing. Yes they had rough patches, but Xander was an honest, down to earth, funny guy who genuinely cared for Caymen while Caymen developed an unexpected but so so good crush on Xander that the two were bound to get it together eventually. The romance was slow build, the chemistry was hot and the whole opposites attract thing really worked on me. Anyone know where I get a Xander?

Cinder and Kai:

These two little lovebirds just need to officialise already because they're killing me. I swear in Cinder I couldn't have shipped these two enough; Kai being the swoony lil' piece of hot stuff he was with his smirk and his smile and his sarcasm and Cinder with her oh so fantastic chemistry with Kai, being quick-witted, honest and having her emotions come from the heart, I didn't think it could get any better, but then Scarlet and Cress came around oh no, the cute just intensified to an unbearable level. Pull yourself together guys and just get on with it already, you're killing me and the rest of the fandom every day that goes by. Oh, and did I forget to mention Scarlet x Wolf and Cress x Thorne? Well, honorary mentions mentioned.

Anna and Kaiden:

I know these two might not appeal to everyone but their relationship is steamy, sexual and so full of raw and alluring emotions and tensions that it's hard not to ship them. For once, the hot bad guys isn't a complete noob or treats the girl like she's part of a pick'n'mix and Anna isn't one to stand around too much and mope. Girl got some kicking ass to go and do and her fella can join her or not, she holds no prisoners, although I think I could join her in wanting to hold Kaiden, man alive. I've got to say, I love Kopano and Z in this series too, and I'd so have myself some Kopano if I had to choose, but Anna and Kaiden are a ship you don't mess with, they will mess you up and bring you down and then celebrate with some food and sex.

My Current Movie Ships

Alejandro and Elena:

These two could so eat you alive. On screen these two share some of the best chemistry I've ever seen and some of best sexual tension in my movie collection. Alejandro's there, saving the day as Zorro, waving his sword about and slashing off peoples necks (I joke), while of course being charming, having his fun and genuinely getting away with anything while Elena is there either being a badass Mother and Wife or fighting alongside her pretty darn attractive husband, or actually fighting her husband, while proving her worth, her intelligence and loyalty to family and the safety of people around her. Damn these two.

Beca and Jesse:

You guys know in my review for Pitch Perfect that I adored this two cuties and that's why they might my favourites list. Beca is strong willed, knows what she's good at, knows what she wants and will do whatever takes to get there, while Jesse is talented, way too attractive to look and way to adorable to be able to resist putting his face in your hands and squeezing his cheeks. I swear to you, I was sold on their connection right from the start and was probably more interested in that than the snacks I was eating while watching. I might also be just a little biased because I'm in love with Skylar.

I have a lot more ships than that, but these were just my favourites and the ones I wanted to highlight and fangirl over. Other honourable mentions consist of Lucy and Owen from The Geography of You and Me, Emma and Oliver from Emma Hearts LA, Cammie and Zach from Gallagher Girls, Tobin and Angie from Let It Snow, Anna and Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss and Lochan and Maya from Forbidden, but of course, I could be here all day, I'm a sucker for romance.

What are some of your favourite bookish and screen ships? Do we share any and what others do you have? Do you have different ships that clash with mine and who do you wish you could ship with yourself? Let me know.

    1. Oh Giselle, it's fine to be behind, there's so many romances in novels these days it's easy to miss them! Dude-brain fart though, you make me laugh! Lucy and Owen are wonderful too! :D

  2. Cinder and Kai, Caymen and Xander, and Beca and Jesse are ALL ships that I also ship. I think it's a shame that it's almost required to have a romantic sub-plot though. What about good old friendship? It's great when my ships come together :)

    1. I know Emily, sometimes a good friendship is all that needs to happen and I like that in some stories, it's a nice change. All of the ships are nice to see in the comments though, glad we have some in common! :D

Caymen and Xander were such a slow building couple, I loved that about them.

  7. OH MY GOD THIS POST IS SO FULL OF AWESOME. THOSE GIFS. OMG. A+++ by a million times on the gifs. It's perfection. Hehe. And I'm 1000% percent with you on Kai and Cinder. They need to make a little commitment there, because they are full of awesome and hot shippy ness but they just won't admit it to each other. And Cinder needs to make a move with Kai before Iko squeezes in there and marries Kai on the spot. Though that would be the ultimate plot twist.

    1. Oh man, the gifs were so fun to use, glad you liked them! They just need to marry already, OH MY GOD WHAT IF THAT HAPPENS?! What if they marry and then she's all BOOM REVEAL and happy ever after? Yes? I think so. Iko would so marry Kai, oh my days, bless her heart!
