Welcome to No Books Allowed. This is a monthly feature hosted by me, used to discuss things things in life which aren't connected to books. This post can be used to talk about days out, music, TV, video games, films etc for all those book bloggers out there who do occasionally do stuff other than read and go to book events!
No Books Allowed by Raimy, over at Readaraptor
So I haven't done a No Books Allowed post since March, but considering I've neglected my blog so much this month because of how busy I've been, I thought it was a perfect time to start taking part in the meme again.
Work
So I would say that the main reason I have been so busy in the last few weeks would be work. I only work ever now and again but lately I've had work a few days a week for the past 3 weeks, and even though its only a few, with looking after Caitlyn and family time it really throws me out of wack and leaves me without any energy or motivation to blog at all. I currently am in need of getting about 5 reviews done, I've also missed out of one of my favourite memes Five Friday Favourites for the past two weeks running (I'm thinking that for next week I'm going to do the 3 weeks in one post because its something I really enjoy doing and I'm sad that I've missed them). Anyway the work I do isn't exactly the most exciting, in fact at times it's really boring. I work at exhibitions around London, and while sometimes they are really interesting like The London Book Fair, sometimes they aren't fun at all and are about business. The one I worked last week (the photo above) was to do with maximising efficiency in the work space with motorized pickers at warehouses and such. It was basically about a lot of things I didn't care for, and thus making it really draining. That and having to travel to work on hot, packed and smelly trains without a seat for the whole journey (which normally takes around and hour - hour and half) leaves you some what bummed. So I'm sorry that I haven't been around much but I've just been left mentally drained. However, next week the exhibition I'm working is about alcohol and the drinks trade, with lots of cocktail making tutorials and hopefully testing, so I think next week I wont be left so in need of my sofa after haha.
Family
as well working a lot in the last few weeks, I've also had a lot of family time. I've had a trip to the farm with Caitlyn and her school, my mother and father in law-s 30th wedding anniversary, were I think it's safe to say I let my hair down a little haha. And I recently just had mine and Glenn's 5 year anniversary. He made us a lovely meal, we had a nice bottle of wine and stayed in and watched some TV. Basically we just chilled out which was what we needed after the last few hectic weeks. This month has just really been one thing after the other, and next month isn't any better I guess. Caitlyn finishes nursery :(, and because the weather is nice and she's old enough to appreciate them now, we plan on taking her to a lot of museums over the summer holidays, starting with the natural history museum in the next few weeks so she can see the dinosaurs haha.TV Shows.
So as anyone who fallows my blog has more than lilied heard me talk about my other half is a security guard and works nights, so because of this the times he is off work we like to spend the nights together watching films or TV programs. This month with finished season 1 and 2 of House of Cards (we started season 1 last month but finished it at the start of this one). It was a good show, a bit too polictical for me I guess, but most of the shows I watch with Glenn are one's that I wouldn't watch by myself. Like I said, it was a good show and I liked it far more than I actually thought I would at the start so thats saying something I guess. The other program we finished off this month was season 4 of Game Of Thrones. Dear god that show gets hold of my heart, crushes it and puts it forcefully back in my chest. I have never, not once, watched a program that grips you every single episode like GOT does. It is simply a work of art and even though I love not knowing what’s coming so I can be just as surprised as Glenn, I really don't I can handle the wait any more and might end up doing a massive (and it would be massive because the size of the books) GOT binge. If you for whatever reason have not started to watch GOT yet, well instead of telling you how silly and behind the times you are I will just say this, watch it. Not everyone thinks it's going to be their cup of tea but you'll soon become hooked like everyone else.
Happy belated anniversary!!
ReplyDeletethank you hun, that's really sweet of you :)
DeleteGreat post! I like the idea of having posts that are just about your life and not just about books. I LOVE GOT! I am totally with you though, so tempted to binge read them so that I know what is going to happen. That season finale was amazing and I don't know if I can wait to find out what happens next.
ReplyDeleteThank you , I can't take the credit for it but I'm happy I started to take part in it.
DeleteGOT... I just cant even talk about that ending. I never, ever, saw that coming. I completely meant it when I told my partner that if he died, I would never watch it again. Thankfully that never happened. Some other characters I love instead where killed off :(. Although I guess its not as bad as the red wedding haha
I don't think I can wait, but I also love the feeling of not knowing and being shocked with my oh. Hard decision haha.
