Who Wore It Better #10 - Scarlet

Who Wore It Better is a meme created and hosted by Nitzan at The Book Babes Read and co-hosted here on Beautiful Bookish Butterflies by Amanda and Stacie. We don't talk about clothing or fashion and we definitely don't talk frills and spills, we talk books and their covers and who we think has the best. This week, Amanda's talking about the covers for Scarlet (eep!), book #2 in The Lunar Chronicles series. In case you hadn't noticed, Amanda is pretty excited about this weeks installment. The covers are SO DAMN PRETTY. She might have fainted from the beauty. Lots of covers, all the beauty.

The Covers

Cover #1 - International Edition
Cover #2 - Portuguese Paperback Edition
Cover #3 - French Paperback Edition
Cover #4 - Polish Edition
Cover #5 - German Edition

My Thoughts

Before we get into anything, I just want to get something out of my system.. HELL TO THE YES THIS WEEK!
Right, now I've sorted that out, can we appreciate these covers please? These probably have to be my favourite collection of covers we've had on Who Wore It Better so far and we've had some absolutely gorgeous covers during this feature, but of course, I should now tell you how difficult it was to put these covers into an order of sorts. Cover #1, the cover most people know and love that gets used near enough Internationally is my favourite by the tiniest of margins and that's because it follows the fairytale of being a red hook and I understand, so does Cover #3, but Cover #1 is more vibrant and she's a redhead. I love myself some redheads. Cover #2, the Portuguese cover is absolutely stunning and only comes second because it's a dress, not a hood and cloak and because- well, that's it really. I find the stars and space used really links well with the series name I think this is a much better cover than the Cinder cover from the same country. Cover #3, the French Edition is third because it's a little duller from the other two gorgeous, vibrant and quite frankly, beautiful covers. It has the hood and the feel of a fairytale, but it doesn't feel Sci-fi, hence third. Cover #4, the Polish Edition matches the Cinder version perfectly and I think it really looks quite wonderful with the doll and the image, but as I say about the third, it feel much more fairytale than Sci-fi and the series is more Sci-fi then fairytale. Finally, Cover #5, the German Edition is very subtle with the wolves in red on the cover, but other than that, it's just not as appealing as the other covers in the collection, which is the only reason it's last. The entire collection of covers this week are actually quite wonderful and I personally think I'd be glad to have any of them on my shelves. A very good week I think.

Your Thoughts

How do you feel about these covers? Do you agree with me or would you change the order? Are there any you don't really like and would swap and change? Let me know your thoughts below on the covers and Scarlet. Did you like it as much as Cinder?

  1. LOVE this meme (because I love covers!). This week's are all so pretty <3 I love #1, #2 and #3. The first one is probably still my favourite but the next two come in at a close equal second. But overall, I like the cover of Cinder better than this one.

    1. I love it too, and I love covers, I swear I talk about them all the time, it must get draining for everyone sometimes..
I absolutely love all of the covers this week, I think it was a fantastic choice by Nitzan though suggesting the series :)
Thank you! I'm so glad we agree on the covers though, the original and international is my favourite too.

  2. Love 1, 2 and 3, but at a push I'd probably go with 1... or 3... indecisive this week! Haven't got round to reading these yet, but I definitely want to!

  3. Oh wow I didn't realise that this cover had so many gorgeous editions! I am definitely a fan of the Portuguese edition, but the Polish edition is gorgeous too! Please don't make me choose one, can I have them all please?

  4. These are all so pretty! It's hard to pick a favourite, but I definitely think #1 is my favourite...coming in second I'd have to go with #3, then #4, then #5 and lastly #2.

    1. Wow, I'm surprised Cover #2 is your last choice Ebony, any particular reason? Is it too cliché looking with the dress and such? But I agree, they are all so beautiful it's tough to choose :)

  5. This meme is soooo awesome. xD I can't get enough cover love! I think I actually love cover #2 the best. Although I DO love the English cover. I definitely agree that #5 is the least favourite. >_< Made me go cross eyed. x)

    1. Thank you Cait! It was originally made by Nitzan and with us both having busy lives, I thought it'd be good to co-host together, so that's what we do. It's also great because we don't always agree, which you totally need in a team! Cover #2 is absolutely beautiful, I so agree, I think it'd make a beautiful poster of sorts, so lovely! Bless you going cross eyed though, I can see why, but those little wolves are so cuteeee! :)

  6. I really like the international one - the only one I've seen so far. The Portuguese one is really pretty too though.

  7. I do think the first one is the best one. It looks beautiful with the first and it's a lot of fun while still communicating danger as well (with the fog and whatnot). I do have to say though, I do not like that second one AT ALL! It is way too "girl in a dress" for me. And the stars? I mean, looking at it without knowing what the book, I would think this is a fairytale retelling of a girl going to a ball on the moon. Yup. Not like that is completely off base or that those elements aren't there for a reason. It's just too much for me :P Sorry!

    1. I agree! I hadn't noticed the fog and whatnot, but I guess the physical copy is much more beautiful, so I can't wait to read it!
I'm so surprised you don't like cover #2, I mean, I can so see where you're coming from, with the girl in dress, the space and the ball on the moon and such, I can see see your point, it's just really surprised me, but we're all different, so that's great! :)

  8. Love 1, 2 & 3!! :) 2 is really stunning but I definitely agree that it loses points for being yet another cover that's just about a pretty dress, should definitely be a cape. I actually really love 3, even though it's not as bright and vibrant. I think 3 might just win it for me but I am not sure why.

    1. It's such a fantastic week for covers, such beautiful covers! I think I just keep swapping from cover to cover lately, they're so lovely in their own way, and I think I'm a sucker for that dress. If someone gave me that dress, I'd have it! :)
