Who Wore It Better is a meme created and hosted by Nitzan at The Book Babes Read and co-hosted here on Beautiful Bookish Butterflies by Amanda and Stacie. We don't talk about clothing or fashion and we definitely don't talk frills and spills, we talk books and their covers and who we think has the best. This week, Amanda's talking about the covers for A Million Sun, the second book of the Across the Universe trilogy. She hasn't yet gotten to the second installment and is still seriously considering..

My Thoughts
Cover #1, the English Hardcover Edition, is as knowledge would suspect, my favourite, hence it's number #1, why? Because I feel like having read the description that it really captures Percy's personality and adventurous streak, while also highlighting that Percy is still only a young boy, doing whatever it takes to save the day. I think the red colours on the cover really make it seem dark and dangerous and as someone who's not read the series, I can proudly say I'd prefer that one on my shelves. Cover #2 is the Italian edition, and I like this one because of colours; the rich browns, oranges and faint yellows really give the impression that danger looms, while the water below Percy is soothing to him, being the Son of Seas and all that; there's something about it catches my eye, and I really like looking at it. Cover #3, the American cover is a little less interesting than the others to me personally. I find the whole 'hero looking out over his home, surveying the grounds' to be very hero esk and typical, as well as the lack of action on the cover being a little disappointing on the eye too. The blues make me feel a little cold, and don't give the impression of danger looming at all, at least not to me personally. Cover #4 is a bit of a mess colour wise; I think the orange yellow shirt clashes terribly with the purple of the cover, while Percy himself looks around twelve years old, and the Pegasus looks a little scary. Cover #5 conveys the theme of the Titans looking and looming over Percy, and while I like the edition of the water, I find the whole cover a little plain on the eye and slightly unattractive. Finally, Cover #6 reminds me of the scene in The Lightning Thief film when Percy manipulates all of the water to drown Luke, and I really like how the illustrators have interpreted Percy and and the Gods, however, I just can't seem to take it as much as the others, hence it's place as sixth.
Your Thoughts
What do you think of the covers? Do you like them? Is your order similar or different to mine? How do you like to new collages too, keep them or revert back to the others? Leave your comments down below and if you've got any series you think would be good to feature, let me know below too.
First of all - love your new format Amanda!! So pretty! <3
ReplyDeleteSecond, I'm so sorry to say this, but I really hate the first cover (your fav...) I had this edition on my shelves (before I bought the hardcover box-set) and it was damned ugly on the actual book. This one might've been of the less awful from the bunch, but still it was so ugly for me on my shelves. I gave all the five books of this edition to my cousin lol
This is my first time seeing the Italian cover, and it is pretty! Though, it also looks kind of photoshoped (I'm so particular about things like this!)
I'm sorry, my fav is the third - I just love the illustration of all the books in that edition.
Cover 5 may not scare me as much as the first cover in German, but still. It's kind of scary. Really.
Great reasoning behind your choices, Amanda!
Thank you! :)
DeleteAnd it's okay, if we all liked the same things, it'd be quite a boring world.
It's so good to have your opinion on the covers Nitzan; I agree, the Italian cover does look a little photoshopped, but I don't mind much, and the German was is less scary that the first, that was so damn scary! Thank you for taking a look, here's to next week!
I have to agree I think the German and International graphic edition are my least favourites, the German cover looks kind of creepy, I definitely wouldn't want to be picking a copy of that in a book store. I do like the UK cover, but think the Italian cover is my favourite. Thanks for sharing a great post with us Amanda!
ReplyDeleteThe Italian is a very lose favourite of mine, I think it's just wonderful. Some covers are just a little bit freaky though..
DeleteThank you for stopping by Jasprit! :)
