Our Lives This Week:

Stacie:

This week I have been ill, not too ill to do stuff but ill enough that I can't be bothered for anything. I'm starting to feel worse as the days go by though so I'm happy it's half term next week and I don't have to do the school run. Other than being ill this week I had my daughters parent evening and though I knew she was progressing a lot it wasn't until I saw it in her learning journey book and was told by her teacher did I fully understand how far she is coming along. She's such a clever little blocks and we are so so proud of her, Glenn did actually take her out yesterday to get her some treats because of good she's been (and because he wont see he much in the half term). I think my proudest moment was when her teacher told me how much of an accomplished reader she is for age (she's going to be 5 in less than a month). We've read to hear multiple times a day since she was born and it's lovely that she's taking such an interest in something that means so much to me. Valentines day for me was spent watching Bates Motel (great show) while having a nice meal and a bottle of wine at home. I hope everyone had a nice day however you spent it.

The Ruby Circle (Bloodlines, #6)
As far as reading goes this week I've only finished 1 book, and it wasn't that good. I've had no motivation or drive to read, I think it's because I've been feeling like poo. I even took myself to the library hoping that maybe some few books would push me (I got 7) sadly it didn't. I got a few other books but the only one that matters is The Ruby Circle. I started it last night, and my heart is already braking at the thought of it being the last. I'm not ready to say goodbye yet, I refuse! Worth mentioning too is that I finally got accepted for The Summer of Chasing Mermaids and I can not wait to read it. I planned on keeping it for a while to read as part of a reading challenge, however I really don't think I'll be able to as I'm so excited about this book I may wet my pants. Good thing is there are other books by Sarah Ockler I can read for it, so I feel less guilty :P (I did actually finish The Duff yesterday, which was really good. I'm looking forward to the movie even if there seems to be a lot of changes judging by the trailer)

Amanda:

This week, I announced on Twitter that I would be conducting an experiment between midnight 17th to midnight 18th Feb. - this upcoming Wednesday, that involved me going off the grid entirely for 24 hours. In fact, it's much more than just going off the grid, it's more hiding, avoiding, ignoring and temporarily deleting everything book related from my life for those 24 hours. Scary huh? That it is. I decided I want to see just how much reading affects my life - how much I think about books, how often I remember a book, how many times I want to check Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads, all the sites I signed-up for because I read, how often I want to blog, read a blog, get a blog idea - essentially, anything that is a result of reading, I'm taking away. It means I won't be online for those 24 hours in the places you'd usually find me, and to make the experiment as authentic as possible, there also won't be a post from me on that day. I'm a cross between excited and really afraid because, everything I've done since I started reading again has changed me as a person, in a lot of different ways, and I have no idea how removing all of these things is going to affect me. The good news? I'll be documenting everything in a blog post for you all, so it should be worth it in the long run.

Just some of what's been happening on Instagram.

Other than that, the eeks been a mixture of happiness, food and illness. I acquired a new bookcase, which therefore meant I had to reorganise all my books, but the end result was definitely worth all the stress it caused and time it took me. It's amazing how quickly you can fill up a bookcase when you want to.. I also chilled on books read in comparison to last weeks book a day, only reading two in total, but I've got some exciting sequels to read next week, and plan on taking part in #5books7days, so I'm hoping my reading picks up again. I went through a terrible bout of illness Wednesday through to Friday, but I did manage to have a chilled Valentines Evening with my best friend - I can think of no better way to end the week.

  1. Sorry to hear that both of you guys are sick! Same. I hate the sickness where it isn't bad but it FEELS like I'm going to die or something. That's how I was feeling last week so gws ladies <33

Amanda, you're doing the impossible. I have no idea what I would do without blogging or reading. I guess my schedule would be... Empty. Hey I might be able to go learn Fur Elise on the piano! And I totally twitched when I read that you were going on a reading fast [is that even a thing?]

    1. The experiment was definitely interesting, so it was worth it, even if it shook me up a little.. I think we're both feeling better, but can't say I'm out in the clear yet, maybe soon, illness sucks!<3

  3. I've been a bit under the weather lately too; hope you're feeling better soon!

Going off the grid sounds almost exciting. I could probably handle a weekday without any book-related anything, but I've been told I'm a workaholoic. I think I'd go crazy on a weekend without anything book related and/or internet. I'd probably start doing work to distract myself, to be honest. Or I'd start writing --- does that count as book-related?

    1. Thanks Liza! One of the reasons I didn't do it over the weekend, boredom central! If you starting writing because of reading, yeah, that would have been book-related, it was horrible though! :)

  4. Stacie so sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. That's the kind of sick I sometimes wish I could just get really sick so I could go to bed. And how awesome about your daughter! I love seeing my kids reading. It's so exciting!

Good luck with your experiment Amanda! I've had phases in my life where my reading went to basically nonexistent but I can't imagine stepping away entirely for even 24 hours!

    1. It was definitely different, not as horrible in the day as expected, but certainly not nice!
